What Self Assembly Toys Can Teach Your Child

When you buy certain toys for your children, you will find those three words that every parent dreads hearing: some assembly required.

While putting together a rocking horse or tricycle is something that a parent (or someone with an engineering degree) might be better off doing, when it comes to smaller things such as play sets and kits or models, you might find that you are best to simply help your children put them together on their own.

Allowing your children to put together toys on their own or with your guidance can offer many benefits.  In addition to offering a sense of accomplishment when they are done, you will find that putting things together activates and stimulates many different parts of your child’s brain.  Much like jigsaw puzzles and riddles, children benefit greatly from the challenge of trying to figure things out, and allowing them to assemble toys is no different.

When you help your children learn how to put a play set from the toy store together, you also help them use logic to figure out what parts might fit together based on color, size, and shape.  This is exceptionally helpful and can make it easier for them to develop necessary skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.

While the amount of guidance needed depends on the toy and on the age of your children, you will find that allowing them to assemble easier playthings by themselves can actually offer them a great deal more benefit and reward than simply completing the task for them or offering them a pre-built toy.
