Founded in 1886, the historic Hotel Monteleone is a true New Orleans landmark. The hotel has been owned by four generations of the Monteleone family in the past 110 plus years. The Hotel Monteleone has played host to some of the biggest names in literature, and has provided the setting for many literary works.
The Hotel Monteleone was opened by Sicilian shoe factory owner and nobleman Antonio Monteleone in 1886, and has been in the Monteleone family ever since. The hotel has been one of the most incredible properties in the French Quarter since it was first opened, undergoing five major additions, including a carousel bar.
The Hotel Monteleone is rumored to be haunted by no less than a dozen ghosts, and many guests and employees alike have reported encounters with these “spirited guests.”
The hotel has played host to many noted authors, including William Faulkner and Truman Capote. It has also been used in numerous books, earning it a designation as a Literary Landmark by the Friends of Libraries USA.
