How to Make Slow Cooked Pork Shoulder in the Crockpot

List: Posted: 09/20/11

Pork tastes great, doesn't cost much at the butcher, and it doesn’t have to be a pain to prepare.  A very simple way to create a great meal for your family is to use a Crockpot.  Many of the meals take very little prep time, and the slow cooker does the rest.  Pork shoulder is an excellent choice because you have so many options with how to prepare and serve it.

The simplest way of cooking pork shoulder in a Crockpot is to buy boneless pork shoulder.  Place the meat into the Crockpot along with about a ¼ cup of water and a few dashes of salt and pepper.  Depending on how you want to serve the pork, you may want to add some other ingredients, such as onions or even potatoes.

Cook the pork shoulder by turning your Crockpot onto high for an hour, and then reduce the heat to low.  Leave the pork cooking in the Crockpot for another 7 to 8 hours.  You want to make sure that the meat is tender and cooked all the way through.

When the pork is ready, remove it from the Crockpot and cut off as much fat from it as you can.  You have tons of options when it comes to serving the pork.  You might want to add some barbecue sauce to it, or perhaps pull it apart and make pulled pork sandwiches.  Your Crockpot cooked pork goes well with many side dishes too, including coleslaw and potatoes.

The preparation time is next to nothing, and the flavor of the pork is incredible!
